week 17 mind map competition .. Lion class winners!!

 


 

Students finished off their mind maps for the mind map competition.
The Lion class CAR BRANDS mind map won the best group mind map for this semester congratulations Atif and Khalid from lion class. 

Week 17 verbal quiz I wish I had..




Students had to make and present 10 sentences about wishes they had / could or didn't ... To help them tell us their wishes for the present.


week 17 house or apartment comparisons.


Students had to write down as many comparisons between an apartment and a house they could think of. They then discussed this as a group. They then had to discuss which they thought was better to have and why??

Presentation competition Week 16 Malik from lion class wins!!




Presentation competition 2015 

Malik Al Ameri from lion class won the best presentation of all the classes on our site with a presentation on the country Turkey.

His presentation covered lots of topics such as food clothes location and culture. His presentation was very good and he put a lot of effort and practice into making it. 

We are all very proud to have him in our lion class!! Well done Malik!!

Week16: Transportation drawing and labelling




Students chose a transportation method and had to draw it from an image they found online. they then had to label the car/train bus etc with all the different parts. 

Week 16: A teacher non speaking lesson on i traveled on a ..



Students were given words they had to use to make a 10 sentence paragraph on transportation they have traveled on. without any assistance vocally from the teacher. students enjoyed that i was quiet and that they had to help each other with the lesson.

Week 15: Final Presentations with two special guests





Students performed their final presentation in front of the class and my two daughters who pretended to be Mr Samir and Mr Oybek. Well done to the class for some very good presentations.


Week 15: I used to.... Poster


Students made 5 sentences using used to about things they used to do and made a poster with illustrations. this was then presented to the class.

Week 15: Making a Presentation using prezi and powerpoint



Students were busy creating their presentations using power point and prezi to use with their oral presentations they are doing on Tuesday in class 3. Some very nice presentations and very good  work getting all the information and pictures. 

Week 15: Myself in the past tense


Students had to start the class by writing as many words or vocabulary they could remember on the board about the past tense they had learned in class up to now.

Students had to then write a paragraph using as much of the past tense vocabulary on the board. the paragraph they had to write was titled "Myself" and read it out to the class. The class then asked questions to the student about what he said about himself.

1. ss will be able to talk about themselves for 2 minutes in the past tense using vocab learnt in class. 

2. ss will be able to gather information they do not know about other students by doing a survey in class. 

3. ss will be able to make 5 sentences using used to when talking about things they did / did not do in the past.

Week 13 football tournament final




Students from wolf class made it to the final of this semesters In class football tournament. The final was very good with some very good goals. Wolf class played extremely well and should of won the final after a great goal by Abdurahman to make it 3-2 with 5 minutes to go. But an own goal in the dying seconds and penalty shootouts not going their way meant they were beaten finalist. 

We are all proud of them as in my opinion they were the best team of the tournament this year. Well done wolf class !!

Week 12/13: Making excuses for invitations



Students in pairs had to practice inviting their fellow student to go to do something together. The second student then had to use vocabulary learnt to make an excuse for not being able to come.

Examples : "I am not feeling well", "I am at work" " and "I am very busy with my family right now!"

Week 13: Making plans on the phone speaking activity with Mr Oybek




Students enjoyed making plans with a friend by doing a telephone call role play. Students had to include information such as time time. place, what, how and with who. Mr Oybek was observing the class so we had the opportunity to do the role play with him. 😃

week 11 Roleplay ordering a meal!


A fun roleplay ordering a meal using requests and suggestions. Following from our field trip students had to make a full conversation and perform a roleplay of four customers and one waiter giving and taking orders.

We also used the menus we made in the previous lesson. I liked the way students improvised and added to the conversation while performing the roleplay.

Week 11: making a menu



Students had to make a menu for their own restaurant. They had to think of prices different food and drink type (starters main meals and desserts) special offers and a company logo. 



Week 11 Field trip: Ordering food





Me and Mr Michael took the students on a field trip in class two to a local restaurant to practice vocabulary we have been teaching in the classroom. Students had to order their breakfast in English using requests ( can may and could ) and even asking the waiter for suggestions. 

The outside of the classroom practice helps the students builds confidence and helps them put the language into practice. Students will then talk about their experience and the food they ate in front of the class at the end of the week.

Students enjoyed the food too as they don't normally eat American style breakfasts. Good job students I hope you all enjoyed the field trip.

Objectives for week 11

Main Objectives:

1. ss will be able to describe 5 ingredients of their favorite foods and Explain what they are by end of the class. 

2. ss will be able to put 10 different food groups into their correct categories eg. meat fruits grains. 

3. ss will be able make and perform a role play of ordering a meal at a restaurant. Using like, dislike and request vocabulary.

Week 10: Label the Containers





Mr Imran had lots of containers from his home. He put us into two teams and we had to label all the containers correctly. The first team to label all correctly were the winners. This was a fun game and we learnt the names of all the containers.

Week 10 Role Play: Doctor and patient


Students had to get into pairs and make a conversation between a doctor and a patient. The students had to choose illnesses discussed in the previous class. The doctor had to ask questions to the patient and then give his remedy for the illness (using I suggest, you should and you shouldn't). This conversation was then presented in front of the class.

Students enjoyed playing the role of the doctor!!

Week 10 Being sick: Different illnesses



Students did not know the names of illnesses in English. So they were all given this paper and in groups discussed what the illnesses were.

We then discussed in our groups what we should do and what we shouldn't do with each illness. 

Week 10 Pair work: reading a conversation and telling their partners.





Students were put into pairs. One student had to read a conversation about being sick and say it to their partners on the other side of the room without shouting it out. This is a good memory test for students. This also uses speaking listening and helps with spelling and punctuation. 

Students enjoyed the activity as it got them out of their seats!!

Week 9 stage 3 of our presentations on Countries

The students are developing their presentations of countries. What have students done so far:

Stage 1 was making a poster and gathering information.
Stage 2 was to make sentences from the information they put on their posters.
Stage 3 was to make the sentences into a presentation format adding an introduction and a ending. Then students did their first video of their presentations. Here are some students hard at work recording their presentations.





For the video presentation we discussed what makes a good presentation:

Speaking clearly
Eye contact
Body language
Confidence

Week 9: Exciting places: country posters




Students started a project today. First part of the project was to choose a country other than Saudi Arabia. Make a poster with all the information they could find about that country such as famous places, foods, clothes. Currencies and also what the map and flag looks like. A chance for students to use their creativity, drawing abilities and how to research information. Well done class!!

Week 8 Describing people drawing Mr Imran


Students had to draw their teacher. Then as a group had to discuss how to describe him. The students enjoyed talking about hair styles clothes personalities and even how tall their teacher was. Even though I am short and said i was tall, i think they were just being nice. It's a fun visual activity which incorporated learning the language within the activity. 

Student dictation : appearance conversation




Students were given a conversation between two people about their appearance. One student was chosen in each group to read the conversation while other students had to write what they hear down. They check spellings and do peer correction at the end.

This is a good exercise to help students with the speaking, listening, pronunciation and spelling.

Students used this weeks class 3 to play some board games. The game had timed questions on cards that they needed to answer in order to progress on the board. They have to use their speaking and listening skills in order to do well in this game. Eid and Anas were our two winners in the end. Well done to the both of them.
