Week 13 West London B1 Acting the gestures






Students in west London class were learning different gestures used all over the world. Students were put into groups of 4 with one student not allowed to speak and doing the gestures. The rest of the group had to say exactly the right meaning as the gesture. Then writing using modals and adverbs what their group member was gesturing. 

Example statements :

I think he may/might be saying hello 
or 
he is probably/could be telling us to be quiet. 



Week 13 East London A2+ Technology Poster







Students in East London class were told to make posters of one type of technology they discussed in class and draw or print a picture of it and label all its parts. Once labelled all parts needed to have a description of how you use it. 

Week 13 East London A2+ mind maps of topics


Students did mind maps of their chosen topics for their presentations in week 17. Students had to think of the topics they will talk about during their presentation and what pictures they will need for each part of the presentation.

Week 13 West London B1 that's what it means!! Emoticons






Students in west London class discussed what gestures signs and emoticons are.

They were then given a sheet of different emoticons. Students in groups had to chose 10 emoticons and describe their meaning and when they would use each one. 


Week 13 East London technology and its uses


Students listed different types of technology they use regularly today. They then had to write two different uses for each technology.

Week 12 West London B1 making excuses peer dictation





Students were put into groups of four. Each student was given a short conversation about an invitation and excuses. Each student read out their conversation while the rest wrote it all down. After each conversation was completed they had to read it and answer the following three questions:

Week 12 A2+ East London Peer dictation




Students were put into groups of 5. One student read out a conversation while the others took dictation. This was followed by spelling correction and a question and answer session about the conversation.

Week 11 West London class B1 My short story


Students in West London class presented their short stories they wrote in class. Students had to figure out what 3 things they had to include in their stories. I really enjoyed listening to some very good and funny stories. 

Stories were then posted up on the my short story wall:




Week 11 East London A2+ Presentation on 2 most popular dishes of achosen country!




Students in East London class did their first presentations. The topic was to choose a country and write about the 2 most common dishes eaten in that country. The presentation needed to include a picture of the map of the country and the two dishes. Students also had to include the main ingredients of the two dishes. Students in the class had to include an introduction of themselves and the topic, then the main topic and information. Then end with a conclusion and an ending.

Students had to concentrate on doing a good presentation. This included body language, speaking clearly, pointing at pictures and to not be nervous.

Week 11 west London B1 wall of landmarks



Students are making a wall of landmarks 
With writing and information from their presentations they did last week. 

Week 11 West London B1 story writing with prompts





Students were given a dice to choose 3 images of random things. Students had to use those three things in a creative short story. 

One example is here from Talal who rolled  mirror bag and a donkey as his three things needed to be added into his story.
I think he did a very good job as did the whole class.

Week 11 West London B1 jigsaw reading and listening activity


Students were put into groups of four. Each group member was given a part of a story of how 2 people became successful. They were not allowed to show each other what was written. They had to read each part to the rest of the group. By listening the group had to number each other 1 to 4 to put the story in the correct order. They then had a list of statements that they had to decide which story each statement was about.

Week 11 East London A2+ information gap food recipe conversation


Ss were given parts of a conversation. Each student read out their part of the conversation about a good recipe. Without seeing the group had to decide what order the conversation was in by numbering each student, one to five.

Students then listened to an audio of the three conversations to see if they got the conversations in the correct orders. 

Students had to finally glue the conversation in its correct order.

Week 10 West London B1 Monuments presentations




Ss did presentations on landmarks all over the world. Students had to include as much information as possible like who was it made for? What does it look like? When was it made? What is it made of? Who made it?

I was very impressed with the presentations and a very good confidence building activity. 

Week 10 West London football tournament


West London class had a football game against Washington class. The game was end to end and Washington took and early lead with a good goal from a corner. West London replied with a great headed goal by moataz assisted by fayez.

The game ended 1-1 and went to penalties. Hisham took responsibility in goal saved a penalty but it wasn't enough and we lost the game by a single penalty. A very good performance by everyone.

Week 10 A2+ East London conversation house or apartment?


Ss had to create a conversation between two friends deciding on what type of place they want to live in. A house or an apartment. They had to include discussing size of rooms, number of rooms, cost of rent, neighbourhood and the furniture.

Week 10 West London Landmarks/Monuments in KSA


Ss discussed landmarks and monuments  in Saudi Arabia and listed them on the board. We then chose 5 of them and had to answer 6 questions about each one. Questions were:

1. Who was the monument made for?
2. Where is it built?
3. What does it look like?
4. How big is it?
5. what is it made of?
6. What makes it interesting or special?

Week 10 East London A2+ Pair memory dictation




Students in pairs had to read a conversation which was outside the class on the wall. They then had to read a sentence remember it and go to tell their partner what it said. They did this until they finished the conversation. Example :



Ss then had to correct the spelling mistakes underlined by the teacher. This activity uses all the four key skills speaking listening reading and writing. Also helps a lot with their spelling.
